It’s an election year, and the political content has just started picking up. 

While I’m sure I’m not the only one who has reservations about President Biden’s age, I was pretty impressed after watching his State of the Union address. 

As a performer who speaks on stage worldwide, I know what it takes to deliver a well-crafted, well-practiced, expert-level performance.

So, while there have been many attacks on President Biden’s mental acuity, the level with which he delivered such a high-quality performance is a testament to his hard work. 

Despite his speech impediment—being an octogenarian who haggled throughout his entire speech—he delivered a full-bodied, energetic performance with focus and poise. 

In this first installment of a three-part mini-series, I will break down my best techniques for delivering an expert-level performance by analyzing this closing SOTU speech, which can be applied to any public speaking opportunity you may have.
